PUBLIC SAFETY CADETS

The objective of the Cheektowaga Police Public Safety Cadets is to provide in-depth, firsthand experience with all related fields of law enforcement. All training is completed in accordance with the bylaws and guidelines of the Public Safety Cadets organization and the Cheektowaga Police Department.

Our program is intended for young adults ages 14 to 20 who have expressed a sincere interest in the law enforcement field as a career and who qualify for membership in the organization.

Our commitment to continually improving the relationship between Cheektowaga police officers and the youth in the Town of Cheektowaga is fostered through our Public Safety Cadets Program.

Our goal is to allow Public Safety Cadets an opportunity to become closely involved with police officers, who through specialized training, are involved with details, community programs, and service. This program provides an opportunity for our youth to serve the community and develop leadership skills.

ELIGIBILITY– Any person between the ages of 14 and 20 may apply for membership to the Cheektowaga Public Safety Cadets.  Membership in the post is achieved by attending two consecutive post meetings, completing an application, successfully completing an oral interview, and passing a background check.

MEETINGS –   Cadet meetings are open to the public and are held on the first and third Thursday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Cheektowaga Police Department, 3223 Union Rd. Cheektowaga, New York. At meetings, cadets have the opportunity to learn firsthand about all areas of law enforcement through an academic, interactive, and social program.   Learning is accomplished with a hands-on approach that gives young adults the opportunity to work with police officers and learn about all aspects of police work. This experience assists them in making a decision about a career in law enforcement.

UNIFORMS– Cadet uniforms are police-style and must be purchased by the explorer.  Patches will be supplied by the Cheektowaga Police Department. The uniform is to be worn in accordance with the standard operating policies and procedures of Post 464.  Explorer uniform maintenance is the sole responsibility of each member.

ADVISORS– Cheektowaga Police Officers serve as Public Safety Cadet advisors. The advisors assure proper administration of the post.

LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL – Cheektowaga Public Safety Cadets are encouraged to represent law enforcement at conferences.  Conferences provide exposure to different law enforcement opportunities and careers, both locally and nationally.  Police Cadets compete against other Cadets from across the country in law enforcement competitions to test and demonstrate their abilities and knowledge of police work.
