WEDNESDAY IN THE PARK

Wednesday in the Park (WIP) was created in the late 90’s by Detective Dennis Gibbs, through initial funding from the Wilson Greatbatch Foundation.  In 2000, WIP was expanded to include games and amusements, team building activities, tournaments, guest speakers, crafts, an enhanced free lunch menu as well as swimming in the Town Park Pool. Weekly themes and activities are designed to fit the needs of this teen population. A detailed brochure describing the weekly schedule is distributed prior to the start of the program.

WIP is co-sponsored by the CPD Community Crime Prevention Office and the Town of Cheektowaga Youth & Recreational Services Department and has remained a highly successful youth recreational program that runs during July and August.

In continued collaboration, both departments interact with the Town’s youth for six (6) Wednesdays during the summer.  These particular days provide opportunities for them to associate with Police Officers in both recreational and educational endeavors.

Our free program is open to all Town residents between the ages of 11 and 15. Attendees will be required to provide their names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth at sign in.  A free lunch will be provided to those who stay and participate the whole day.  Please call 716-897-7207 for more information.

Weekly attendance ranges from 90 to 110 participants (on average).
