The Cheektowaga Police Department’s Sex Offense Squad (SOS) is a dedicated investigative unit within the Detective Bureau, specializing in the thorough investigation of allegations involving sexual offenses or incidents of a sexual nature. Every reported allegation of sexual misconduct is thoroughly investigated.  The SOS conducts these investigations with utmost respect for the rights of both victims and the accused. 

Beyond its investigative responsibilities, the SOS acts as a liaison with various community organizations and support services, ensuring that survivors of sexual crimes and those impacted, receive appropriate assistance and guidance throughout the process and beyond.

The unit is comprised of a Detective Lieutenant and eight (8) Police Detectives, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis. Given the sensitive nature of these cases, they represent some of the most emotionally challenging and complex investigations within law enforcement.

Detectives assigned to the Sex Offense Squad receive specialized training focused not only on the investigative techniques required for sexual crimes but also on understanding the profound emotional and psychological impact these offenses have on victims and all parties involved.

On average, the Sex Offense Squad investigates approximately one hundred twenty (120) cases annually.
